firehawk

A folk tale retold, a timeless hotel, and one woman's thirst for more. Firehawk is a morally ambiguous, darkly humorous psychological thriller integrating storytelling, music and dance.

Firehawk takes inspiration from the folk tale Fitcher’s Bird, as collected by the Brother’s Grimm. This tale belongs to the type where the heroine saves herself and her sisters (311 in the ATU index for those playing at home). Fitcher’s Bird is a murky fairytale, with nuanced messaging around curiosity, desire and revenge. Firehawk explores the moral dilemmas of desire and rage - things seen as ugly or unwelcome in polite society.

It takes inspiration from the “Good for Her” women, the heroines who save themselves, and even the women who turn out to be wolf. Firehawk flips the script and asks: What if it were our heroine who wanted more? To what murky lengths would she go? Who decides who deserves redemption?
